Karen and Frank Smith
Music Ranch Founders
Karen was born in Bozeman, Montana. Her parents, Tennett and Nellie Oma lived in Bridger Canyon and had music and a dance hall above their farm shop. For many years this dance hall was a center for community dances and gatherings in the area and the fun and community spirit associated with it made a lasting impression on Karen. Frank grew up in Canada, in Central B.C. and he loved singing and music from a very early age. He studied mechanical engineering and started and developed a manufacturing company along with maintaining an ongoing interest in musical activities.
Frank moved to Montana more than 20 years ago to an improved environment for free enterprise (see www.towhaul.com) and he purchased a place in Paradise Valley. When Karen and Frank married in the mid 1990s their common interest in music and community lead to their starting the first Music Ranch Montana at Frank's place of business in Belgrade. Karen's daughter Kim Wild of Bozeman now runs the TowHaul Corporation, and Karen's son Scott Wheat is a software engineer at Seattle. Both families, with two children each, are very active in their support and enthusiasm for the Music Ranch. Karen and Frank recognize that TowHaul is a benefactor supporter for their place of music which they have now relocated to their home property in Paradise Valley south of Livingston, Montana.
